CL sled hill injury prompts lawsuit

The mother of a Lakewood boy injured while sledding at Indian Prairie Park has filed a lawsuit against the Crystal Lake Park District and the city of Crystal Lake seeking more than $50,000.
Andrea Aguilera said her 10-year-old son was “permanently scarred and disabled” after hitting a wooden fence held in place by metal stakes, according to the lawsuit.
The boy broke two bones in his leg, one of which was sticking out of his leg before he was taken to the hospital Feb. 13, Aguilera previously told the Northwest Herald.
The lawsuit accuses the park district and city of willful and wanton conduct and alleges that officials previously had been notified of at least one other child being injured after crashing into the fence.
Aguilera’s attorney, Hans Mast, said the boy hadn’t recovered and still was being treated for the injury.
He also said that the damages likely would far exceed $50,000.
A sign posted at the hill warned “sled at your own risk.”
Attorneys for the city and the park district had not filed a response to the lawsuit as of Thursday.
