Back injury sidelines Hawks’ Crawford again

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

For the second consecutive game, Hawks guard Jamal Crawford sat out with a back injury.

Crawford, who has been having back problems dating to the preseason, said he reaggravated the injury Tuesday in the Hawks’ loss to Detroit and was unable to lift his arms above his head. He sat out the Hawks’ loss Thursday to Boston. Coach Larry Drew said he was told by trainer Wally Blase that it was a problem with a disc.

“I think I did a funny movement or something,” Crawford said of the injury.

Crawford called it a day-to-day injury. He hoped to return to the lineup either for Sunday’s game at New Jersey or Monday’s game against Orlando at the latest.

“If this was the summertime, I would definitely take more time, but with games, you can’t do that,” Crawford said.

Horford ailing

Center Al Horford has been dealing with swelling in his right hand after injuring it against Indiana on Dec. 11. He has been icing his shooting hand before and after practices and games. He was also wearing a wrap on his left wrist Friday. Horford, who was seventh in the league in shooting percentage going into Friday’s game at 57.1 percent, made 7 of 20 shots against the Pacers. However, he was a combined 11-for-21 (52.4 percent) in the past two games against Detroit and Boston.

Etc.

Josh Smith’s 1-point game against Boston was his lowest since a game in the 2005-06 season, his second in the league, a stretch of 373 games. Smith bettered that total in the first two minutes of Friday’s game with a basket. He went into the game averaging 15.9 points this season. … Drew on guard Jeff Teague’s 18-point game against Boston on Thursday: “That was really a welcome sight to see him playing like that. I thought he did a great job.”
